Full page color photographs of completed concoctions cover almost every recipe. The ending has measurement equivalents, an index, four blank lined pages for notes, and the author’s biography. With seventy-five recipes included, the author begins her book with the health benefits of slow cooking, promoting using sugar-free, low sodium, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Giving information on which slow cooker to buy based on needs, care and cleaning are also provided. The book is divided into six sections of seventeen poultry, eleven pork, eight beef, seventeen soup and salad, thirteen sides, and ten dessert recipes. Some delicious-sounding choices are bacon-wrapped chicken fingers, one-pot baked potato bar, moo shu pork, slow-cooked molasses roast, spinach and rice soup, steak restaurant mushrooms, wheat bread, and blueberry pudding cake. The recipes begin with the title of the dish along with serving size and cooking time. Ingredients used in order are on the right side of the pages while the opposite sides have a sentence or two explaining the concoction and simple directions below in paragraph format. One recipe that serves six is for chicken tortilla soup containing a dozen ingredients. The instructions state: “Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker. Add all the remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through. Use two forks to shred the chicken before serving.” How simple can that be!There is no listing in the table of contents to look quickly up a dish; however, an alphabetical index can be referenced. No caloric or nutritional information is included, yet the meals appear to cater to a low-fat, low-sugar diet. For anyone who loves their crockpot or wants to expand their cooking by using this ingenious appliance, this comprehensive book offers plenty of mouth-watering recipes to try.Rating: 4.5 of 5 starsHaving written five cookbooks, author Dymock also has written articles for several publications, short stories, and fictional novels including romance under a different pen name. Thanks to Cedar Fort for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review of the reader’s honest opinion.

Of course, I didn't have time to try out all of the recipes in this book, but I did try out a few. There were some that my family really loved.I do try to cut down on salt and use more seasonings, but the Hot Chicken Sandwich recipe didn't have any salt at all and was a little bland for my taste, being seasoned with just smoky paprika, chili powder, green onions, and red peppers. I guess I need to cut back more and let my taste buds adjust and then I'm sure I'd enjoy it more. There were other recipes that were really good and easy. I had a lot of success with the Philly Pulled Beef Sandwiches, Turkey Loaf, but the kids were split on the Moo Shu Pork--some of them didn't like the smell of the cabbage cooking and didn't want to eat much. I really liked it though.I've never thought about cooking bread in the slow cooker, which is perfect for the summer, so I'd like to try that one next. This cookbook starts out talking about the benefits of healthy cooking and why a slow cooker can help achieve that. I loved the pictures that accompanied each recipes, but wish there was info about the nutritional value. This book is easy to use and just requires a little prep earlier in the day to produce a delicious meal.*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
