About the Author

GUODONG CHEN, PHD, has extensive pharmaceutical research experience in major pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly and Company, Schering-Plough and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Currently, he heads the analytical/mass spectrometry group at Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Princeton site in support of drug discovery programs and development projects in small molecule pharmaceuticals and biologics. He has over 65 research publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and three edited/co-edited books in pharmaceutical analysis. His other contributions to the scientific community include over 80 presentations at scientific conferences and academic institutes; service as a short course instructor, as session chair at various scientific forums, and as a reviewer for journals. He received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University under the direction of Professor R. Graham Cooks.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The book contains many topics involving chemical characterization of biopharmaceuticals using mostly UPLC-MS and is very useful. By Ira Krull I have been teaching Chemistry for >35 years, mostly at the undergrad/grad levels, at a major, Boston University (not the BU), as well as giving training courses for both the pharma and biopharma industries around the world for about the same time frame. I have also published widely in these very areas, and have read countless similar texts, journal articles, review articles, technical magazines, and attend local, regional, national and international meetings devoted to these topics. You can find all of the 10 chapter topics online, and they are the most widely used approaches for chemical characterization of peptides, proteins, antibodies, ADCs, oligo-MAbs, fusion proteins, and similar biopharmaceuticals. The book is authored by several individuals, all expert in their particular topics, and most or all, published authors with very good experience in their topics. This is not a book for someone who does not know or has not read a good deal already in these same topics, it is not an introduction but an advanced treatise for those who want to be kept abreast or just learn what are the very latest advances from 2013 and before. I have read several texts similar to this one over the past >30 years but this one is probably in the top 10% and well worth the asking price. I would buy it again in a flash, and I almost never give five stars but this book really does deserve such a rating.
