The Celtic belief that by recording a story the spirit of the story and its teller would die, has meant that generations worth of stories of have been lost. Celtic Sea Stories brings together myths and legends from the past, which the author has collected throughout his lifetime, along with others written specifically for the collection, to provide an enchanting vision of Scottish life by the sea. From kings and fairies to mermaids and witches every tale explores a different aspect of a forgotten way of life. Before schools and television storytelling was the only way to entertain, impart wisdom and explain the inexplicable. "Celtic Sea Stories" allows readers to share in the storytelling experience again and again, while learning about Scottish history and culture.

True Celtic Culture By Amazon Customer On a chilly, windy, rainy day last September, I had the pleasure of sitting by a warm peat fire in a small croft on the Isle of Skye and listen to a kilted George MacPherson weave Celtic tales. Although all through Celtic history, storytellers have been keepers of the culture and teachers of history, fewer and fewer are carrying on this oral tradition so hearing this man was an incredible pleasure. He is from a long line of Celtic storytellers and believes that while the stories should entertain, the great stories of the oral tradition should not be altered but told as originally learned. These stories illustrate his belief in doing that. Each of these 33 stories carries the Celtic culture and way of life of whatever age they are set in ... ancient or modern. Celts have always had a life giving connection with the sea and these stories show that historical connection. The sea is used to teach lessons about greed, dishonesty, lying, neglect, love and duty. A lovely 'read' for those truly interested in delving into this area of Celtic culture.I am a Celt and I came away from my visit with a new respect and appreciation of my roots. That prompted me to purchase his book and I'm proud to have.
