I think it was an excellent book for a new writer. The only advice I would suggest is to have more character continuity.**Spoiler-don't read any further if you haven't finished the book**At the end of the book Makayla is meditating. This struck me as odd because this was not something that seemed in character for her and she had not done this anywhere else in the book. There were times when Xavier had a very "old world" feel to his character and then other times where he seemed very young and modern. The character of Adrian came off as very cold-hearted and menacing and then he did a quick turn around that didn't fit his first portrayal in the book.
