It takes some effort to follow, not primarily because of the context, but because of the way it is presented.

It was crash course style - went through things fast. However some of the content was not evenly explained. For example, the book states that local variables have no default value. The book covers instance variables. But it never explains whether they have default values or not.There is a large chapter in the book devoted to HTML and CSS. Not that these topics are not important. But I am trying to learn Python here, not web development per se. The last chapter was a segueway into another book by the same author. That was 5% of the book with just some sample chapter from another book. Would rather have had more Python details.Finally, the book goes over some solutions from sample problems on the web. I can go to that web site and figure out the solutions if I learn enough Python. Would really liked to have learned more Python than see pages spent on sample coding.Overall the book was worth the low price I paid. I just wish the pages were devoted more wisely to more Python. I might consider other books by this author if I am looking for a quick low cost "crash course". But I don't think this book deserved the four to five stars the other reviewers gve it.

He has no one to guide him. Nicholas realizes at a young age that he's attracted to men instead of women, but is never told why that is unacceptable. Nicholas is sent home from school after being caught with two young men. His parents are mortified, but still don't explain why he shouldn't indulge. His father beats him but never explains why he's being punished. In an effort to be rid of Nicholas, his father sells him to a local businessman, Simeon Allan, to be his secretary.Nicholas has never been taught any skills, so he fails miserably. He also has no qualms about stealing and lusting after someone on staff. Simeon confronts him one day about all his foibles and why he should curtail them. Then he offers Nicholas a 'job' as his 'boy toy”. Nicholas embraces his position with vigor, there at Simeon's disposal. Nicholas resents being an employee rather than someone Simeon cares about. He doesn't take into account that even though Simeon 'uses' him, he also provides many comforts Nicholas would otherwise not have. He doesn't see this as an expression of caring. When Simeon's young nephew, Benedict comes to visit, Nicholas mistakes lust for love and obsesses about Benedict, fantasizing about this being his chance to have someone who cares about him. Unfortunately, Benedict is not the businessman that his uncle is and Simeon knows this. He won't give Benedict what he needs to promote the business so Benedict decides to leave. Desperate to keep him there, Nicholas comes up with a plan to make that happen.It's difficult for me to believe that someone doesn't automatically know right from wrong, therefore, isn't capable of making logical, moral choices, but Nicholas is one of those people. Not being taught how to make appropriate decisions, either by example or teaching, he simply doesn't have the reasoning power to sort it out properly. As narrator, I saw what was going on in Nicholas's mind and it wasn't a comfortable place to be. Because Nicholas has no discretion or power of reasoning, it is inevitable that some tragedy will befall him. Although I hoped, for his sake, Nicholas would somehow come to realize that what he had was perhaps not ideal, but nonetheless better than he would have had, and grow to appreciate it before it was too late. Sadly, it never happened. If you enjoy a suspenseful, spooky gothic horror mystery which keeps you on the edge of your seat and gets your heart beating rapidly with anticipation, despite the fact that you know what's probably going to happen, then you may like this story. Initially I started reading this over some dinner only to get interrupted, however once I returned to reading it I could not put it down. The characters are all really well written,they each have a strong desire that makes them go forward in the plot, and makes it all the more entertaining to read. It's easy to feel attached to them. QUAINT & REFRESHING By GG Castillo Although the grammer is not perfect and the use of some words, like exquisite, could be slightly overused, I am TOTALLY satisfied with everything this gem of a book has to offer. It was almost like standing in the kitchen with my mother-in-law, teaching me how to cook for her first born son!My beautiful mother-in-law is gone, but the recipes included in this book continued where she left off in my training, cause not one of hers was included but I could almost hear her speaking to me as she cooked. I was so engrossed I actually read every single recipe word-for-word before even beginning to try one.I'm guessing this is Mrs. Goodfood's first book and I am honored to have a copy. Thank you, Neyda.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Delicious and Easy! By Ms. Dewey Decimal This lovely Mexican cookbook starts off with an interesting history of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. Each recipe has a brief explanation of the dish’s origin, and all of the recipes are accompanied by pictures. The directions are extremely easy to follow, so even if you aren’t a master chef you’ll be able to make these dishes!So far, I’ve really enjoyed the Beef and Mushroom Burritos. They’re delicious and quick to prepare. They weren’t as heavy as other burritos, and with the vegetables they’re actually pretty healthy!I also liked the more authentic Mexican recipes, like Totopos which are similar to nachos. There is even a recipe to make your own tortillas. I thought it would be difficult but actually it’s super easy. But you can use store bought tortillas as well.My absolute favorite was the Mole Poblano. I’ve tried other mole sauces before and this one is definitely the best.This is a great cookbook, and I can’t wait to try out more recipes!

When I purchased this cookbook, I didn’t know what to expect but Neyda Goodfood makes cooking these dishes easier. I found the ingredients to be simple and the instructions to be straightforward. We even learn a little history behind each dish, which makes it more interesting and more connected to the Hispanic culture. I feel like I’m reading a fascinating story about each dish. The Chicken and Blue Cheese Burritos are my favorite in this book! I think I will try the fabulous looking Mexican Sauce next! I would highly recommend this cookbook to anyone looking to learn how to cook authentic Mexican dishes!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I love my new purchase! By Kortney I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease on Tuesday, June 30. (Tuesday of this week) Celiac is an autoimmune disease that requires that I no longer eat gluten. I am very sensitive to gluten, and doctors do not give a lot of information when you receive this kind of diagnosis. I have searched and have learned a lot online, but I am still uncertain of so much. As I read the beginning of this book I felt like those were my thoughts written down. The accounts of unexplainable pains and suffering are something that I really know. I have ate very little this week due to fear as I know so little about gluten free. This book provides over 100 gluten free recipes, including a gluten free version of APPLE FRITTERS!!!! (that is right - apple fritters!!!) The book goes beyond recipes, and provides come suggestions for kitchen gadgets, eating out while traveling, and a list of gluten free brands/foods. All of the lists are short, simple, and sweet. She cuts to the chase and gives the important details, and leaves out the mumbo jumbo. I find this so refreshing. She is invested in gluten free, but is realistic with others around her still indulging in gluten. She also provides helpful tips throughout the pages of the text. This is a perfect purchase for people who are new to gluten free. I am planning on making several things over the next couple of days. I will update this status if the recipes are anything less than the best, but I am pretty sure that these recipes are going to be just as awesome as the book itself.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Don't waste your money! By Shari Martin I just looked over my Gluten-Free in Lizard Lick.....what a waste of money! There are recipes that didn't have gluten in them to begin with if you read the mayo you buy. The rest of the recipes are nothing you can't make with the gluten free mixes on the market today, she uses on brand. I have been Gluten-free a long time and there are even better mixes on the market. Lesson learned don't waste your money on this book, lots of free recipes on the web/mixes in the store.

By Steffan The suggestions in this book simply work.I use it whenever a problem arises in my life.-One day I got three parking tickets.-One day I couldn't find my car for 30 minutes in an airport parking lot.-One day I was stressed waiting for my offer to get approved.-One day I hurt my shoulder very badly and was worried it would never be the same.-One day a close friend betrayed me.We all know stressful situations can creep in, they affect our breathing, our mood, our appetite, and even our digestion.The point is, in each of those cases the lessons in this book came to my mind and I was able to use the techniques taught to regain control of my emotions and tackle the problems with a clearer head.This is the first book I have read that tackles mindset in a non hippie esoteric manner.I recently went to a Gorilla Mindset Seminar to get to know Mike a bit better.I wanted to check his demeanor, his friends, his wife, and decide if this man is congruent with the claims he makes online.What I found was that he is even better in real life!He is the real thing, and he's a really NICE GUY despite all the trolling online!!He did not try to sell anything to us. Everyone there already had Gorilla Mindset.He paid for the venue out of pocket and charged us nothing.He spent the entire time going over the techniques in Gorilla Mindset and answering our questions.Believe it or not Mike is actually trying to help people!I highly suggest this book to anyone looking for concrete and practical steps to get better control of their emotions.

207 of 255 people found the following review helpful. 3 Stars Out of Respect for Mike, but a Rather Disappointing Book By Anonymous As a medium to long-term reader of "Danger and Play" (I've been following the blog for about a year and check it on and off), I had high hopes for "Gorilla Mindset" and expected a lot of original and thought provoking content, as this is what Mike is known for. This book failed to live up to expectations in 3 major ways:1). Unoriginal: Very little of the advice in the book is that new or original, and a lot of it is extremely generic. For example, the chapter on money talks about investing in index funds, the chapter on weight loss talks about eating natural foods and minimizing starch and dairy, and the chapter on self-talk talks about being positive. This is all good advice, but as a compulsive reader, investor, and fitness fanatic, this is extremely basic (all of it is probably the advice you would get on page 1 if you picked up a book on any of those respective topics)2). Lazy/Minimal Effort: Many of the recommendations in the book were copied almost word for word from "Danger and Play." I noticed this especially on the chapters about posture, but all chapters were guilty of this to some degree3). Poor Attention to Detail/Idea Development: I like what Mike did with the structure of the book (touching on a number of disparate elements and connecting them to mindset), but the way he developed each idea was extremely poor. Most books I found groundbreaking would bring up some controversial ideas, develop each in a lot of detail, then connect this to a new idea in a series of logical steps ("So Good They Can't Ignore You" by Cal Newport is a great example), but this book gave a number of half baked ideas, provided minimal evidence, then jumped on to something new. A lot of the advice were things prefaced with "try this, some people say it works", or "I used to do this, had mixed results, but hey, why not do it yourself?". Scientific research was minimal and almost laughable (Mike brought on "experts" and simply had them verify all of his opinions-he never actually challenged his ideas). As such, this book gave me little faith that Mike really knew what he was writing about or that his ideas would work for meIn sum, I found the book pretty disappointing in a number of ways, although there is definitelysome useful information here (the stuff on supplementation about NAC and ZMA for example or the information on posture). I gave 3 stars as I respect Mike and don't want to label this a 1 or a 2, but I do think he could have done much better, and as is, you could get much better info by picking up any basic book on any of the various elements that "Gorilla Mindset" addresses-James

This book will make you a better man.Long version: three years ago I found myself divorced, overweight, and directionless. Mike Cernovich's blog, Danger and Play, was vital reading about topics like fitness, game for introverts, juicing, posture, money, and generally living your life to the fullest extent. His blog has had an incredibly positive impact on my life in terms of mental focus, fitness, freedom, and the understanding that you can live the life you've always dreamed, if you have the courage and skills to do it.What makes Mike different? Cernovich is not a self proclaimed "alpha male" or anonymous blogger complaining about modern women. He is the man you look at and say "Wow, I want to be more like him." Mike is fit, well traveled, articulate, and never shy about speaking his mind, even if his opinion might hurt a feeling or two. He is one of the few people whose advice and input I actually value.This morning I woke up and was excited to find Gorilla Mindset on my Kindle. I figured that I would read through a chapter or two and go on with my day. I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting from cover to cover. (let me be clear about something - reading this book cover to cover in one sitting will not maximize it's value. It's one you'll probably read several times, make notes on, and re-read again and again. Can't wait till it comes out in paperback. It's one that is going to be dogeared, written all over, and referred to quite a bit.)Gorilla Mindset blew me away. Is is an excellent, practical instruction manual on how to get the most of out life. It's definitely not Danger & Play repackaged into a book. It's a book I will read several times.Mike hit the nail on the head when he said that this is a book for you, and if you're not willing to invest the time into going through the exercises, it's going to be a waste. The book touches on a variety of topics - mindset, fitness, posture, money, and then goes into detail about how to practically improve upon each subject. Boiled down, Gorilla Mindset is an instruction manual about developing the skills and habits necessary to live a life that you are in control of.Gorilla Mindset is incredibly practical. For instance, one of the best pieces of advice that I needed to hear was saying "no" to everything. I constantly agree to everything, and then overextend myself, causing me to miss gym sessions, work until 2am, and generally putting everyone else's needs over my own. So, today instead of hanging out with my friends because it's Saturday, I decided to stay in, read, cook, lift weights, and clean my office. I feel better for it. Tomorrow I will be diving much deeper into the application.Exceptional, exceptional book. There's nothing out there on the market like it. Mike continues to inspire through example.
