By steamy book momma This is the third book in this series and they must be read in order to understand what is happening. Several years have passed since the end of the second book. Maggie's father is now the king and has moved them into them into live with him in the palace. After many tries they finally have a child, Jamie. They have had to put almost a complete stop to their spicy extracurricular activities. Life in the Palace is a difficult thing. There are traitors everywhere. People who are pretending to be loyal to the king but in fact are plotting behind his back. Maggie is separate from her siblings because she is a bastard child and they were born royal and married into royalty as well. Robert gets sick with the small pox and Maggie is worried he will die. She was engrafted against small pox so she his nurse while he is ill. They are all telling her to prepare for the worst but she refuses to believe or give up hope that Robert won't recover. Robert does indeed recover and worries that his son will get small pox. Once he learns about the engrafting he wants Jamie to have it done. The doctor refuses but he is the same man that helped him recover in the last book. He says that his daughter might be willing to do it; he gives Robert the address. Robert goes to see her alone fearing her reaction to him and not wanting to hurt or upset Maggie in any way. When he gets there he is taken by how beautiful she is and his reaction to her. She wants him to make good on his promise from all those years ago and give her a night of passion she will never forget. What will Maggie say? Robert can't stand the thought of hurting Maggie in anyway. Will this put another strain on their marriage or will Maggie manage to surprise Robert once again? This book is just as great as the first two in the series. I love Maggie and Robert. The book has mystery, intrigue, romance, and more. Robert and Maggie's marriage is different for people of their class for the time. They married for love instead of power or something else. There are lots of twists and turns in the book. It seems like there is always someone who wants to stand in the way of their love. Another great job Nina. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Aftermany years, miscarriages and stillbirths, they finally have a son.They are at court with her father, he has been crowned after his brother's death.The intrigues of court life are not something the Duchess, Maggie, would like to have to deal with, but she knows she must support her fathereven though she is illegitimate. He has acknowledged her and she must stand by him. Even when she is sure that his own legitimatechildren do not. It is a daily struggle not to get caught up in the intrigues and misdeeds of those who court the King's favor. Maggie and Robertmust keep on their toes when in public. But when in private, things are very intense. They both share a love of what would be called deviancy.Bondage and love play are completely normal for them. Maggie is worried that her husband needs more than she can give at times and he worries the same.When Robert falls ill with smallpox. Maggie is devastated but knows she is the only one who can nurse him. She has an immunity due to a grafting procedureshe underwent before. Kind of like a vaccine, she was given a small amount of the virus and now will not get it again. Their son, however, has not hadThis because it is not a common practice.To have the procedure done for her son, they would have to find someone who has trained and is willing. After Rober recovers, he tells Maggiethat he knows someone who can do it. Then he has to tell her how he knows this person. And how well this person knows him.The price the woman asks to perform the grafting for their son may just be too high.Snakes abound in the court of Maggies Father. He is a Catholic in a time when that created its own problems.People close to him were secretly plotting his demise. His trusted advisors and some of his family as well. They will stop at nothingto get what they want and do not care whom they hurt in the process. If only her father could see the truth!This book was a good read, very hot, with quite a bit of raunchiness going on! I can't go into detail, but I am positive I blushed while readingmany times! Maggie and Robert are well matched in the bedroom. Which contains all sort of interesting items for fun!The writing was very well done. The scene setting was meticulous as to detail and kept me very interested.I usually do not read books that contain BDSM. But I found that the story line kept me reading anyway.Nina Mason has a way with words that are not too abrupt when detailing bedroom activities.I highly recommend this series if you like to read hot salty goodness! But I do recommend reading them in order.

Almaguer This is the third installment in Nina Mason’s compelling and very enjoyable erotic historical Royal Pains series set in England in the late 17th century. Intrigue, history, religion, politics, sex, and a devoted romance combine to make the continuing love story of Maggie and Robert a winner.A Devil’s Masquerade is really a serial in that each story is an open-ended novella, making it mandatory to read in order. It’s addictive, engaging, and fascinating. This series’ energy reminds me a lot of Victoria Vane’s Devil DeVere series.Robert, the handsome and very sexy Duke of Dunwoody, had a wild and voracious sex life before his marriage, but his love for Maggie, his duchess, burns true. She, in turn, loves being educated by him in the erotic arts and is very open to experimenting. When she becomes Mistress Maggie in the bedroom, Robert is only too happy and thrilled. It keeps their marriage fresh.Maggie is the illegitimate daughter of the new king, James II, and he considers both Maggie and Robert among his closest confidantes, something that is especially dear and crucial in the treacherous political atmosphere of a court divided by religion, spies, and treachery.Religion is at the heart of the political conspiracy that threatens the throne and, as devout Catholics, Maggie and Robert tread a slippery slope. As in all the books, Mason’s research is impressive and she also embellishes her prose with colorful and blunt vocabulary, true to the time period. At times, the history is so richly presented that, unless one is familiar with the details, this reader’s head was spinning.The Church of Rome was founded by one of Christ’s apostles; the Church of England by a monarch who could not keep his pizzle in his codpiece.Yet despite the religious subterfuge, sexual experimentation is prevalent then as now. What goes on in the bedroom remains private despite the rigid teachings of the Catholic Church and both Maggie and Robert struggle with their consciences. Indeed, men keeping mistresses is the norm and Maggie’s own mother was a mistress.But against the norm, Robert is true to Maggie and keeps no mistress; instead, they explore a wide array of sexual adventures together. There is a ménage a trois as well as a foursome that, as in the sex scenes in the other books, is depicted smoothly and sensually. In these scenes, however, the tenderness between Robert and Maggie shines through.The heart of this series is the beautiful love affair between Maggie and Robert and that’s what is so enjoyable. They are committed to each other even as dangerous events and plots threaten their happiness.The mask made talking difficult in close proximity and impossible at a distance, but feeling his regard in every gaze and touch of his gloved hand, she returned the sentiments in similar fashion. In the dance, touch and looks communicated affection, and she felt her husband’s to the depths of her soul.I think the cover is fantastic. Maggie is indeed a blonde while Robert’s long dark hair and sexy chiseled face complement her perfectly.This novella is a must read for erotic romance readers and those who enjoy lively and sparkling historicals.
