It pierces the clarity of blue that peaks behind the luminous clouds and separates it from the deep blue of the ocean. A seagull’s cry slices through the haze that surrounds me, and it is only then that I can hear the waves crashing against the shore. The sun has just finished rising and I can already tell it is going to be one of those near perfect warm summer mornings. Then again ninety percent of the summer mornings in Santa Monica, California are gorgeous. But today it does nothing for me. The reds and oranges that used to warm my soul leave me cold and empty. The sound of the waves doesn’t have the usual pull that urges my feet to feel the moist sand between my toes. Then why am I here? I’m here because if I am going to write…and if I am going to try and heal…I have to start at the beginning. And this is where it all started. This is where I started to live. This is where I found love. He took care of me from day one.
