The book in hand presents advanced methods of brittle fracture and fatigue assessment. The Neuber concept of fictitious notch rounding is enhanced with regard to theory and application. The stress intensity factor concept for cracks is extended to pointed and rounded corner notches as well as to locally elastic-plastic material behaviour. The averaged strain energy density within a circular sector volume around the notch tip is shown to be suitable for strength-assessments. Finally, the various implications of cyclic plasticity on fatigue crack growth are explained with emphasis being laid on the DJ-integral approach.

This book continues the expositions of the authors’ well known reference work in German language ‘Ermüdungsfestigkeit – Grundlagen für Ingenieure’ (Fatigue strength – fundamentals for engineers).

These topic are well documented in different journals but of course, the information is rather dispersed. The book is well organized and able to summarize the modern techniques for fatigue design, mainly as a result of theoretical and experimental work of italian and european researchers. I strongly reccomend this book.

About the Author Author Mark Dusenbury is an Associate Professor for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Before coming to the University of North Dakota, Mark was an airline pilot for American Eagle Airlines, and a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He also holds a Commercial Pilot certificate with instrument, single, and multi-engine ratings, and is a Certified Flight Instructor for single, multi-engine, and instrument airplane.Author Shayne Daku is an Assistant Professor for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Before coming to the University of North Dakota, Shayne was an airline pilot for Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation. He also holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with instrument, single, and multi-engine ratings, and is a Certified Flight Instructor for single, multi-engine, and instrument airplane.Author Robert Laux is a Lecturer for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Before coming to the University of North Dakota, Robert was an airline pilot for Piedmont Airlines and a corporate pilot for SC Aviation Incorporated. Professor Lovelace has developed or co-developed and taught many of UND’s aviation flight courses and has co-authored publications for pilot certification courses as well as other aviation-related flight courses. He has given numerous presentations at local, regional and national aviation conferences. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Education from University of North Dakota. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Professor Lovelace is in his tenth year as a Director on the National Business Aviation Association’s Certified Aviation Managers Governing Board and recently stepped down as a Director of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Board of Directors after serving for 27 years. He is active with the University Aviation Association and Aviation Accreditation Board International though various committees.

About the Author

Kyung-Whan Yeom was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1957. He received a B.S. degree in electronics from Seoul National University in 1980 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea, in 1982 and 1988, respectively.

From 1985 to 1991, he worked at LG Precision as a principal engineer. He worked on the MIC team as a team leader and was later involved in the military electronics division for EW Equipment. When he was at LG Precision, he received a technical achievement award for the ABEK program from Teledyne Microelectronics.

From 1991 to 1995, he worked at LTI on power amplifier modules for analog cellular phones. He joined the Chungnam National University as assistant professor in 1995 and is currently a professor in the Department of Radio Science and Engineering, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Korea. His research interests are in the design of hybrid and monolithic microwave circuits and microwave systems.

Professor Yeom has been a member of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science (KIEES) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1995. He was the editor-in-chief of KIEES from 2004 to 2006. He received the IR-52 Jang Youg-Sil Prize from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Korea for his work on cell phone power amplifiers in 1994. He received an academic award from KIEES for the design and fabrication of a novel 60 GHz GaAs pHEMT resistive double balanced star MMIC mixer in 2004. He also received the best paper award from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) for his work, “A Novel Design Method of Direct Coupled Bandpass Filter Based on EM Simulation of Individual Resonator.”

The ADS version used in the book is completely outdated By Ssound The book gets some points for being unique in a way that it incorporates ADS during the entire development of the topics. However there is a downside, first it wont teach you ADS from the ground up, meaning you need to at least know the basics of ADS. Second, and this is the real deal breaker, every example and tutorial is based on ADS 2009, and it is completely different from the most recent versions, and im not just talking about menus being placed somewhere else, but drastically different, unless you are doing a basic example its practically impossible to follow the longer tutorials, since ADS 2011 every layer has different labels, some menus no longer exist, etc... I cant understand how is it possible that a book released in 2014 uses ADS 2009. Do yourself a favor and stick to David Pozar's book for microwave theory and youtube tutorials to learn ADS.

It provides you with very practical and useful ways to design a variety of microwave circuits. If you are using the Keysight software of Advanced Design System, you can find many practical examples for circuit design and get design tips for your circuits and systems. This book stands out clearly from other recently-released microwave circuit design books.

War, Women and Rememberance By Max Lemberger I have the attention span of a fly so I regularly read anthologies as it is a great way sample authors without committing to a mind numbing 75,000 word novel. This ten story collection is unusual, and dare I say "important" in that it features lesbian relationships that are forged in the heat of battle. As so elegantly stated in the introduction by the Editor, Sacchi Green, "Women have been largely ignored by the predominately male (war) historians." True. The subtitle is a very accurate descriptor of the content- Lesbian Military Historical Erotica- an unlikely grouping of words even in this modern age- nearly a quadruple oxymoron. They stories are fiction but the settings are real and portray perfectly believable lesbian encounters.The collection spans over a hundred years of conflict from the Civil War to Vietnam. Again as Ms. Green excellently summarizes, "Women come together for comfort, for relief, driven by adrenaline and hormones, hurling their pleasure into the teeth of mortality and cultural oppression."I'm hesitant in ranking the stories as that was the editor's task. Anthologies typically draw hundreds of submissions, so these are clearly the best of a large pool. Still there are a couple of works of note. "War of the Rebellion" by Pascal Scott is based in the Civil War. The setting is 1862 when speech and manners were far different from today. Scott retains just enough rustic language to keep the reader in the period. "Watching" by C.B. Potts, set in the Korean War was rife with action, emotion and strong sexual tension. Finally, "Danger" by Sacchi Green, with my generation's war, Vietnam, and its sad aftermath. Green gives readers an unflinching look at nurse struggling with PTSD.You don't have to be a military buff to enjoy this scintillating collection.

Excellent By TD Webb Wow, I'm a history nut and also a veteran, I appreciate the stories about women pretending to be men to fight in the earlier wars especially the civil war. Being born and raised in Canada we were taught US history which I loved and still read today.he stories in here were informative, every one of the author did an excellent job. I wouldn't mind reading more of these.the one that jumped out the most was danger it hit home on exactly what war is like here today gone tomorrow, you only live f o r today.

The stories are well written and gave me a little insight, to what it might have been in these wars. The struggles, the fears and the need of some sort of comfort and relief are understandable. The stories are well developed and have a wide span of war history, from the early World War I till the Vietnam War. Trough the eyes of the authors, I could imagen the feelings of these strong women. The story I loved most was «Danger» from Sacchi Green.

By Kyle Robertson This book is pretty well written, with the right amount of recipes, tips and tricks, and full color photos to please anyone looking for something to spice up their cooking.I appreciate the safety tips and first aid instructions at the beginning of the book, as I have had a few mishaps myself when dealing with chilies in the past. There is also a good section containing interesting facts about chilies that anyone who is a chili head can appreciate.The first part of the book is dedicated to basic sauces: Chili Vinegar, Chili Oil, Louisiana-Style Chili Sauce, Louisiana Hot Sauce, Caribbean Habanero Sauce, Salsa, Mango Chutney, and Jams. Then there is a section presenting several very interesting and exotic variations on normal foods that you can kick up a notch with chilies.Lastly, there is a history of familiar chili sauces on the market, and a short list of trade fairs and events for chili enthusiasts.The second part of the book is all about grilling, BBQ sauces, and various ways to use them. It starts off with the basic Ketchup and builds from there to BBQ Sauce, Steak Sauce, Mustard Sauces, and Chicken Wing Sauce. The book finishes with various Mayonnaise Sauces. Mayonnaise? Yes, mayonnaise. While I have only tried White BBQ Sauce a few times, it is a tradition in Alabama and other parts of the south. Mayonnaise is very versatile, and here Nowak gives you a tried and true basic mayo recipe, to which you can develop your own sauce. He provides recipes for Spicy Mayonnaise, Curry, Lime, Herb, and Whiskey.I would recommend this to fellow chili and grill enthusiasts as a reference to keep on hand when you want something a little different than the norm. By LoveBooks My husband and I have been wanting to go camping and have never been so I decided to grab a hold of this book, and I am so gad I did! The author has done a great job with this book. There are different types of pictures in this book to show you what different types of tents look like and from the descriptions in this book we know which one we want to get. There are a list of items in the book that we will need when we go camping and so far we have gotten a few of the items and looking forward to getting the rest this week. I can't wait to go camping now, thanks to this book!

I grew up in the scouting program, and I always enjoyed the outdoors. It is something that I think far too many people miss out on today. If you do not have a lot of experience camping, then this is the perfect book to help you learn. It covers everything from how to select the right camping gear, to types of shelters and tents, and even includes some tried and true campfire recipes. Overall, this book is an excellent beginner's resource.

Food is really personal, and if I have to rely on my imagination, that's not a very good invitation. There are no pictures. The time to prepare and cook is not provided. The number of servings is a total mystery.That said, there are lots of pretty recipe names that do invite the reader to look further.My suggestion to this author...finish the book as it needs to be finished. You are NOT done yet.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year and a half ago. I bought this book to help me learn more about this disease and what it's all about. I found out that there are even people in my family who had it, and didn't know it! It probably explains why most of us are overweight, too. There is tons of valuable information that most doctors don't even know about it !
